cats!!!!

Cats, what can I say? An endless source of entertainment! (From here)

tupera tupera

There are SO many cute books and illustrations at tupera-tupera. Thinking about "The Campaign" project, I loved the one above, but there are so many lovely things it really is worth looking at their website. We have also to have a think about handmade/hand-drawn text, I thought the text below (obviously not the same alphabet) was really great and unlike anything I had seen before.

jordan grace owens

I have been thinking about the different directions I could take with "The Campaign" brief (promoting a classmate to potential flatmates incase you missed that bit). I want to have something that you can hold at the end of it, but I would also like to have something I could animate too. I was thinking about the little paper dolls you could dress but then I saw these lovely paper dolls above that have been made by Jordan Grace Jones, there are so many lovely things in her Etsy Shop, have a look!
Jordan Grace Jones also does the lovely painting clusters (above), such a great idea. Perhaps a little painting of each of my classmate's USPs?

strictly paper, computer arts, yum yum london and more inspiration

Brittney Lee
We have begun our next module at college, Illustration Futures. The brief is to create an advertising campaign to promote a classmate to either a potential employer, boyfriend/girlfriend or flat mate. So the research has begun and I have descovered some great sites so far - Strictly Paper, Yum Yum London, Computer Arts and Brittney Lee (look at her amazing paper engineering here). Also recommended - Inky Goodness, Big Active, and Onitsukatiger.  Not necessraily my usual starting points, but have to think about digital/real world outcomes, for example produce a zine, use paper engineering, produce a pack of collectables, a viral, some 3D objects or a "sticky" website.

llamas' valley

I have found a new blog - llama's valley, I think it is going to be one I check out on a regular basis. I love nosing around other people's houses and particularly enjoyed this post.

more claudia pearson

I am still really loving the tea towels and the illustrations of Claudia Pearson. She has lots of lovely work on her blog and in her etsy shop, and now you can go here to read about her studio too!

little things

Oh how we (ok, I) laughed! This little cat (from here) looks so like ours, and yes, I was tempted to make a cardboard outfit/house for mine too. Slightly worryingly I was more enthusiastic about it than the kids.

My Illustrator trial has run out, so I will have to finish this project in college. These will be the last cats for a few days, I just have number 5 to do, and then the colouring and tidying. At the moment they will probably be a series of postcards, but time will tell.....so for the moment, feedback please!

paul & joe

Look! I am not the only cat obsessed person out there. These pictures are from Paul & Joe 2012 Spring Creation. I have loved their clothes for a long time but the have recently expanded into beauty products too.

cat 2

In case you are not up to speed on my lunatic potterings, I have been trying to do cats being numbers. Number 2 has definitely been the hardest so far. Am I right in thinking that the one on the right reads better than the one on the left? I would really appreciate some feedback!

association of illlustrators competition and christopher brown

I was thinking it would be a good idea if I posted competitions on here, as it would then mean my blog could be a useful source for other illustration students. So today's one is from Association of Illustrators, (all the details can be found on the AOI website). The London Transport Museum and AOI have announced the 2012 Serco Prize for Illustration, and this years theme is Secret London.
The theme reminded me of something I saw on St Judes' facebook feed, Chris Brown's wonderful An Alphabet of London. I had come across it before in (I think) a printmaking journal and loved his tales of visiting places all over London when he was researching and compiling the book. I can't remember where exactly I read about it but you can find out more on the Central St Martins' blog.

I have almost finished the cats. I have 1,4,6,7,8 and 9. They will require some tweeking when I put them together, but I am really enjoying the project and look forward to playing with the colour and the finish. Also it has really helped reinforce what I have learnt to date on Illustrator.

Is he too serious? Does it read as a "4"? Also, again with the midget tail!?

There is a small chance I might actually follow through on one of my random potterings.....I am playing with the cat I did for the Readers Digest assignment, to see if I can have a "cats doing numbers" thing. Can you see what this one is? The clue is in the title!!!!!!! Also should his tail be longer?

colour and sound alphabetty

I loved this fantastic alphabet which I found over at colour and sound. Anna who created it is a recently graduated illustrator who studied in Cambridge.

inspiration and elena hormiga

I was having a little peruse around blog world and came across this image that I really liked. I have been thinking about bringing together the digital and collage bits that I have been experimenting with, and thought that Elena Hormiga had done a great job of going just that.

tea towels and claudia pearson

I am pondering tea towel designs, partly as a spin-off from my Illustrator experiments at the weekend and mostly because I am struggling with my essay for Cultural Studies. Anyway, I came across a great source of inspiration in the form of Claudia Pearson, who I recommend you check out.

It is snowing outside, and really cold, so I am pottering about inside trying to get to grips with Illustrator. I realise this is a basic image but I'll have a go at tarting it up later. Sometimes though, simple is best.

Isn't he cute? The inspiration for him came from the MOMA website. He is based on an exhibit in their Talk to Me exhibition.

new yorker final images

final image by only lucy
final image, a photo by only lucy on Flickr.
I thought you might like to see the final headings for the brief we had, asking us to design listings headers for the New Yorker. Many moons ago I posted a suitcase which you can see in the "travel" header, and my interpretation of dna which in the end didn't form part of the "science" header. The headers had to be in black and white and be current. So for example, the "art" header references exhibitions that were at the MOMA at the time of the brief, one was  Cy Twombly sculptures and the other was Talk to Me about Man interacting with Machines.
